Cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka
Your journey begins with an early pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, followed by a scenic drive across the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). Enjoy panoramic views of terraced farms, rocky cliffs, and charming Berber villages.
Explore Aït Ben Haddou – Morocco’s Iconic Kasbah
We reach the ancient fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a jewel of Moroccan architecture. Wander through its narrow alleys, mudbrick homes, and kasbahs—a location famed for films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
Stop in Ouarzazate and Overnight in Dades Valley
Continue on to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” and then through the fragrant Valley of Roses to the Dades Valley. Marvel at the red rock canyons and fortified kasbahs as you settle in for the night in a peaceful guesthouse overlooking the valley. Dinner and overnight stay included.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Desert
Discover the Dades and Todra Gorges
After breakfast, we drive through the captivating Dades Gorges, with time to admire the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock formations and winding mountain roads. Then head east to the Todra Gorges, where 300-meter cliffs tower above a crystal-clear river, perfect for a short walk or photography session.
Reach the Sahara and Prepare for Camel Trek
By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, gateway to the legendary Erg Chebbi dunes. Get ready for a memorable camel trek led by local guides into the heart of the desert, timed perfectly to catch the spectacular Sahara sunset.
Spend the Night in a Berber Desert Camp
Arrive at a traditional Berber camp, where a warm welcome, Moroccan dinner, and evening of music around the campfire await. Gaze at the endless stars above and fall asleep to the silence of the desert. Both standard and luxury tents are available based on your preference.
Day 3: Merzouga – Khamlia – Nomads – Erg Chebbi Exploration
Saharan Exploration Day
Wake up early for a magical sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at camp. Today is dedicated to exploring the surrounding desert. Ride a 4×4 vehicle through the Erg Chebbi dunes and visit the village of Khamlia, known for its Gnawa music and African heritage.
Meet Nomadic Families and Discover Oasis Life
Continue your desert immersion by visiting nomadic Berber families living in traditional tents. Learn about their unique lifestyle, enjoy tea with locals, and explore a desert oasis and seasonal lake (when water levels allow). Lunch is often served in a local restaurant with traditional Saharan dishes.
Optional Sandboarding and Sunset Walk
Return to your riad or camp in Merzouga for relaxation or optional sandboarding, quad biking, or simply walking in the dunes. Enjoy a second desert night under the stars, with music, storytelling, and traditional meals.
Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Middle Atlas Mountains
Drive Through the Ziz Valley Palm Groves
After breakfast, we begin the journey north, passing through the Tafilalt region, Morocco’s largest date-producing area. The scenic drive continues along the Ziz Valley, where rows of palm trees stretch along the canyon floor beneath rugged cliffs.
Stop in Midelt – The Apple Capital of Morocco
Lunch is served in Midelt, nestled between the High and Middle Atlas ranges. This peaceful mountain town offers cooler air and impressive views of the Ayachi Mountains.
